The
company was started in 1987 by Odysseus Ioannou (President) and
Alexander Palamiotis (Managing Director) both graduates of Newcastle
University, U.K. with degrees in shipbuilding.
After working for several
years in the shipping industry and having considerable experience with diesel
engines they established the company ERGON
LTD.
The company
originally acted as an intermediary for the buying and selling of diesel engine
spare parts and in 1989 ERGON
Ltd. expanded its activities to include stockholding imported spare parts for
re-selling.
At the same time it gradually started
developing the idea of manufacturing certain
parts for diesel engines and the first machinery was bought.
In 1990 ERGON Ltd.
ventured into the production of consumable spare parts for diesel engines and over the next few years
the product range and production capacity greatly increased. More machines were bought,
high-technology was introduced into the production line (CNCs), and in 1993 after
moving to their own new and larger premises (2000 sq. metres), the company
became a corporation and had their name changed to
ERGON S.A.
The
factory is situated in the industrial area of Aspropirgo in Attica,
Greece. Initially,
it produced parts for stuffing boxes and other part accessories. From 1994 to 1996, the
company expanded into the manufacturing of spare parts for turbochargers, fuel
injectors and piston rings.
Ergon S.A.
produces and trades in spare parts for medium and high-powered diesel engines
for propulsion and generators for ships, trains and also for electric power
stations, excavating equipment etc.
Development has been based on the
company's own technical knowledge and expertise.
In 1998 it
acquired the Lloyds Register Quality Assurance certificate ISO 9002.
